We met for the first time over three years ago during summer. It was a 15 second long interaction. We quickly introduced ourselves as I was headed out of a mutual friend’s house. It was a meeting that shouldn’t have carried much significance, but life had a bigger plan for us.

We eventually met again when Harris started working at the same golf course as me. We talked a few times during our shifts about places we've explored and places we wanted to explore. He approached me one day after work and handed me his number on a score card and asked me to text him sometime. Eventually I did, and it really wasn’t long before we were best friends. He became someone I could be my complete and whole self around. Right from the start, we could talk about life and dreams in a way I hadn't with anyone before him.
I have no idea how we managed to find each other but I’m so damn lucky we did.
Harris moved to Lubbock from Atlanta about a year before we met. Before Lubbock, he had graduated from Auburn, was living in downtown Atlanta, and had a great job in accounting. Despite all this, he needed to make some life-changing decisions to elevate his future.
When I met Harris, I was in my senior year of college and getting ready to make my dream move out to the mountains. For some reason I thought we were in different stages of life at that point. If I had let myself overthink everything (like I always do), I would've missed out on one of the most genuine and loving people I've ever known.
We’d both been through our own obstacles, but we connected on the basis that, while some obstacles are defining moments, they don’t always have to define us. We agreed that life is too short to not go after the things make us happy and fulfilled.
Our lives were going in different directions before we met, but our story is one of my favorite things about us. We could've so easily missed out on each other, but here we are. After three years, two cats, one dog, and thousands of miles traveled together (on foot, car and airplane), we’re sealing the deal. It’s the most surreal feeling having our love for one another finally come to this point.
I've found a rare kind of happiness with him. An unconditional and freeing sort of happiness. He gives validity to my impulses, makes me laugh harder, think tougher and encourages my dreams like no one else. Just being around him feels like home.
*After putting off engagement pics, we finally decided to get some done. Harris suggested we head out on a usual adventure and set up a tripod and shoot them ourselves, so that’s what we did. These first few are from a hike on our 3 year anniversary, the rest are from another day/hike. Below are some favorites. :)*
